After 27 years in a dual role, REE’s Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Mai Thanh has handed over the CEO position to Mr. Huynh Thanh Hai.

The appointment was announced by Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) on the afternoon of July 24. Mr. Huynh Thanh Hai’s term as CEO is for three years, starting from August 1. Mrs. Thanh continues as the chairperson of the board of directors after transferring the CEO role.

At the transfer ceremony on the same evening, Mrs. Thanh expressed gratitude to partners and employees who have helped her maintain inspiration in her dual role as Chairwoman and CEO for 27 years. Reminiscing about her family, she emotionally shared, “I want to extend my deepest thanks to my family and children. The bond and happiness with REE are akin to my enduring 40-year marriage.”

Mrs. Thanh sees this as a pivotal step, not only because of the new CEO but also because REE has reappointed two deputy CEOs responsible for finance and construction. Previously, the company had selected many candidates from its member units for leadership training.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Hai, the successor, previously served as REE’s Deputy CEO for nearly seven years and was the Executive Director of REE Mechanical & Electrical Services Corporation. Mr. Hai, originally an electrical engineer from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, later earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Royal Roads University (Canada).

Mr. Hai views his new appointment as a challenge. However, taking on the role amidst the current volatile and difficult economic conditions is seen as an opportunity to test himself.

“I have set many ambitious goals for myself. Soon, many positions within the REE group’s member companies will be reorganized to serve the long-term plan,” said Mr. Hai.

Established in 1977, REE was the first company to list on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in 2000. The company operates in multiple sectors, with its main areas being mechanical and electrical engineering, office leasing, and energy. Last year, the company reported a revenue of approximately 4.900 trillion VND and a post-tax profit of 1.640 trillion VND.
